Mission Moment: Safe Harbor Child and Advocacy Center of the Smokies

In late fall of '21, the Women's Fund announced that four new grantees would be joining our Network in 2022-2023. This month we would like to introduce you to Safe Harbor Child and Advocacy Center of the Smokies in Sevierville. Established in 2005, this organization is a private, non-profit corporation chartered with the state of Tennessee to serve the 4th Judicial District, consisting of Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson and Sevier counties. Safe Harbor provides intervention and treatment for child and adolescent victims of severe abuse, neglect and/or those who have witnessed a violent crime. Safe Harbor works together with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, specially trained medical and mental health providers, and the District Attorney General's Office. Their goal is to make the investigative process more gentle and less traumatic for children who have suffered trauma and abuse. Safe Harbor offers supportive services to both children and their non-offending parents or caregivers including advocacy and trauma focused therapy, at no cost to the client or their caregivers. With the proper intervention and treatment, Safe Harbor gives child victims hope and healing. This ensures that each child has the best chance at a healthy, prosperous life. They can and do recover. Though it may sound simple, an investment in Safe Harbor’s programs and services is an investment in our entire community. "We are thrilled to be aligned with the Women's Fund of East Tennessee through the Strong Women, Strong Futures Network, " shares Executive Director, Maggie McNally, "and also look forward to the benefits of partnering with other like-minded organizations whose goals are to positively impact the lives of future generations, starting with children such as those we work so hard to serve."
